Overview
Ledong Li autonomous county is situated in the southwest of Hainan province, surrounded by mountains and the sea, and covers an area of 2,765.5 square kilometers. Its sea area is 1,726.8 square kilometers and its coastline is 84.3 kilometers long, consisting of Longmu Bay, Longteng Bay and Longxi Bay from the east to west. The county's southwest is coastal plains, while the central, northern and southeastern parts are mountainous areas with 23 mountains that are 1,000 meters high. Its forest coverage is up to 62.95 percent.
The county has a total population of 537,400, among which 329,300 are Han people and 202,700 are from the Li and Miao ethnic groups. Ledong is Hainan's largest ethnic county and it has the highest population and the most developed culture.
Advantages
With a long history, the county has a profound culture. It is known that as far back as more than 2,000 years ago, the ancestors of the Li ethnic people worked and lived on this land.
Rich tourism resources in Ledong have been attracting tourists from home and abroad for a long time. These include the largest and most well-preserved tropical rain forest in China–Jianfeng Ridge National Forest Park, the unique landscape of Maogong Mountain, and the rich ethnic cultures of the Li and Miao peoples.
The county also boasts abundant tropical agricultural resources due to its excellent natural conditions. Ledong Li Autonomous County is one of the few counties with a tropical climate in Hainan province and the nation at large. It is known as a "natural greenhouse", "treasure land of tropical crops" and "green treasure house". It is the first "national modern agricultural demonstration zone" in Hainan, an important southern breeding and seed production base, and a winter melon and vegetable production base.
The location advantages of Ledong are obvious since it has very convenient transportation. The countyis near many natural ports and Sanya Phoenix International Airport. In addition, several railways, highways and high-speed rails pass across it.
