Haikou, the capital of South China's Hainan province, is seeking to attract international talent.

The city issued the "Announcement on the Recruitment of Urgently Needed Talents from Foreign College Graduates for Enterprises and Institutions in 2024" on Wednesday.

The initiative aims to recruit 342 talents from international college graduates for enterprises and institutions. Of these positions, 19 are designated for public institutions, 10 for statutory institutions, 61 for state-owned enterprises, and 252 for enterprises within the city's key industry parks.

The recruitment encompasses a spectrum of fields, including advanced manufacturing, the modern service industry, biomedicine and the headquarters economy. Foreign talents are encouraged to apply for 10 positions in the Jiangdong New Area Management Bureau and the Haikou International Investment Promotion Bureau.

The recruitment initiative aims to onboard 131 individuals with doctoral or master's degrees, constituting 38.3 percent of the total recruitment pool, underscoring a focus on attracting highly educated and skilled professionals. Of the available positions, 21 offer an annual salary exceeding 300,000 yuan ($41,345), while 73 positions provide an annual salary ranging from 200,000 to 300,000 yuan.

Eligible candidates meeting the criteria are encouraged to submit their applications through the official website of the Hainan Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security between July 1 and July 12.

The ongoing construction and advancement of the Hainan Free Trade Port offer vast opportunities for international talent, and the recruitment is a pivotal initiative for Haikou as it strives to execute the talent-oriented city strategy and roll out the "Coconut City Talent Plan", according to a spokesperson for the Talent Development Bureau of the Haikou Municipal Party Committee.

"Looking ahead, Haikou is set to concentrate on cultivating a conducive talent ecosystem aimed at retaining professionals by addressing pressing issues such as housing, children's education and healthcare services," the spokesperson said.
