From January to June 2023, Sanya saw a net increase of 112 registered yachts, bringing the total number to 1,249, the most in the country, according to the Sanya maritime bureau outlet recently.
During the same period, Sanya saw 520,000 visitors board 84,000 yachts, marking an 87.8 percent and 86.7 percent year-on-year increase, respectively, both reaching historic highs.
As of June 30, a total of 54 zero-tariff yachts had been imported in Sanya, suggesting that the benefits of yacht policies are starting to be seen.
In recent years, Sanya has promoted the reform and development of the yacht industry, establishing itself as a pilot zone for innovation. By creating a favorable business environment, the transaction costs for related enterprises have been greatly reduced.
According to the Hainan Province Yacht Industry Development Plan (2021-25), by 2025 the registered number of yachts on the island province is expected to exceed 2,446 and the total number of yachting tourists is expected to reach 1.36 million annually, generating an industry output of more than 10 billion yuan ($1.4 billion).
