In the wake of the development of industry clusters, as well as the establishment of educational, medical, and commercial facilities, Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City in Sanya is becoming a thriving hub for academia, research and business.
Since its initiation in 2019, the park has seen vigorous development with a raft of research buildings completed or under construction. Its Nanfan seed breeding and deep-sea industries have attracted dozens of universities and research institutions, along with over 10,000 companies.
Beginning in 2020, it has been allocated 4,744 Hainan-specific student quotas by the Ministry of Education, with 2,995 students currently enrolled. More than 90 percent of these students are engaged in disciplines related to science, engineering, agriculture, medicine and interdisciplinary fields.
To date, the park has attracted over 30 research institutions and prestigious universities, including the Institute of Deep-Sea Science and Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the China Agricultural University Sanya Research Institute and the Zhejiang University Hainan Research Institute.
More than 30 academicians are engaged in scientific research, innovation and application demonstrations, with 10 provincial-level academician innovation platforms having been established.
Leading domestic and international seed companies, such as China National Seed Group and Longping Biology, as well as marine industry enterprises such as China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, have also settled in the park.
To attract talents from all directions, Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City continually works to improve its recruitment policies and talent services.
To date, the park has attracted a total fixed asset investment of over 60 billion yuan ($8.3 billion). By the end of July 2023, the park had employed a cumulative 35,100 professionals since its opening, including 1,838 leading talents. What's more, cumulative grants worth 171 million yuan had been disbursed to talents.
