As one of 13 key parks in the Hainan Free Trade Port, since the start of its construction Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City, it has focused on the development of tropical agriculture and deep-sea technology innovation.
Established in May 2021, the Hainan Yazhou Bay Seed Laboratory has focused on seed technology innovation.
According to Huang Hefei, the head of the cooperation and exchange department of the laboratory, research teams collaborating with it can independently use the equipment by making online reservations in advance and completing paper registrations on-site.
Since November 2021, the laboratory has engaged in joint scientific and technological research with experts, focusing on core technologies related to the seed industry chain. It has attracted the participation of dozens of research teams from domestic universities and research institutes.
Elsewhere, Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City's special geographical location in Sanya near Nanshan Port offers great advantages for deep-sea research.
The construction of the public scientific research and exploration wharf in Nanshan Port has now been finished and it is expected to be put into use by the end of 2023.
On completion, it will add 428 meters of shoreline and include support facilities, such as a research and exploration warehouse and a maintenance pier for research vessels, meeting the needs of scientific research and equipment maintenance for various research institutions.
The industrial park is striving to create an open and shared cluster of sci-tech innovation platforms.
With a construction area of over 600,000 square meters, it has already built 17 public scientific research platforms, while another eight research platforms, including the Deep Sea Technology Innovation Public Platform and the Biotechnology Innovation Laboratory, are under construction.
To date, more than 10 universities and research institutes, including Wuhan University of Technology, China Agricultural University and Ocean University of China, have settled in the park. They have trained over 3,000 postgraduate students.
