At 00:54 on July 21, an aircraft from Jakarta, Indonesia, landed at Sanya Phoenix International Airport, marking the opening of the Sanya-Jakarta international air route.
The Sanya-Jakarta route, operated by Lion Air, will have two flights per week, with a flight duration of 8 hours and 30 minutes. The inbound flight departs from Jakarta at 21:15 every Monday and Thursday, and arrives in Sanya at 1:30 the next day. The outbound flight departs from Sanya at 2:30 every Tuesday and Friday, and arrives in Jakarta at 6:45 on the same day.
According to Sanya's tourism statistics, the number of overnight visitors from Indonesia reached 46,100 in 2019, ranking among the top five international source markets for inbound visitors to the city. In the first half of 2023, the number of Indonesian tourists visiting Sanya increased by 292 percent compared to the same period last year.
With the opening of this Sanya-Jakarta air route, it is expected to accelerate the recovery of Sanya's inbound tourism market. It will also play a positive role in promoting economic, trade and cultural exchanges between Sanya and Jakarta.
