Hainan has introduced more than 450 varieties of high-quality fruits and vegetables to the market, such as durian, durian honey, jackfruit and yellow dragon fruit. These agricultural products have been cultivated in a designated 300,000-mu (20,000-hectares) area.
Hainan issued a plan to develop tropical fruits and vegetables from 2022 to 30. Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City will build an international tropical fruit and vegetable innovation and utilization center. Haikou, Sanya, Danzhou and Wenchang will build demonstration bases for quarantine and resource collection, conservation, introduction, cultivation and display purposes. In addition, Hainan will continue to build agricultural industrial parks, industrial clusters and towns with strong agricultural industries.
Hainan has set up an expert committee for the development and utilization of its tropical fruit and vegetable resources, and has hired 33 experts from Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Fujian and other places to take charge of these resources, which include quarantine, testing and other processes.
Hainan has identified 11 provincial-level excellent tropical fruit and vegetable seed breeding bases, as well as eight provincial-level tropical fruit and vegetable demonstration bases. It has launched promotional activities in six cities, including Haikou, Sanya and Qionghai, to promote the planting of durian, jackfruit, sakuma, rambutan and yellow crystal fruit.
