Five villages in Hainan province were selected to the list of China's beautiful leisure villages in 2022 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
These five villages were: Damao village in Jiyang district, Sanya; Chaolie village in Boao town, Qionghai; Maona village in Shuiman town, Wuzhishan; Shatian village in Xinxing town, Tunchang county; as well as Shuiwei village in Shiling town, Baoting Li and Miao autonomous county.
A total of 255 villages were selected this year, 84 of which were also designated characteristic villages of agritainment.
To qualify, the villages must have three characteristics: an abundance of innovative businesses; local farmers who are heavily invested in the rural tourism industry; and they must make use of digital technology to market their services.
