A press conference held on Nov 15 announced that the 4th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) will be held in Sanya from Dec 3 to 10, with the opening and closing ceremonies to be held in Haitang Bay Square.
This film festival invited Marco Muller, an internationally renowned curator, film historian, critic and film producer, to serve as the art director, and joined the curatorial team with seven international film selection art consultants to select the highest-quality films for the festival. Many famous filmmakers will appear at the opening and closing ceremonies.
Marco Mueller has served as the art director of several international film festivals, such as the Venice International Film Festival in Italy. He has also helped acclaimed Chinese directors, such as Zhang Yimou, to be selected for international film festivals, making important contributions to Chinese films going global.
The Golden Coconut Award of this film festival represents a global collection of outstanding films produced after Aug 15, 2021. From July 21 to Sept 26 of this year, 3,761 registered films were received from 116 countries and regions. Among them, 3,050 films were registered in foreign regions, accounting for 81.1 percent of the total.
Juries responsible for dishing out the Golden Coconut Award will select the best film, best director, the jury award, best actor, best actress, best screenwriter, best technology, best documentary feature, best short film, as well as other awards from the list of finalists.
Some 80 to 100 films are expected to be exhibited during the festival. It will hold seven forum activities, including the Hainan Free Trade Port film industry development summit forum, the documentary forum, the women's film forum, the China children's film Industry development forum, the creation forum, the film distribution and screening forum, and the film technology forum.
The film festival solicited script projects under production from global discourse creators. After 43 days of solicitation, 702 entries were received, an increase of 25.1 percent over the previous session.
The film festival will also hold several promotional activities to provide a more diversified space for the development of the domestic film market.
