Hainan has been promoting new brands of agricultural products and the development of e-commerce. In the first 10 months of this year, Hainan's online retail sales of agricultural products reached 13.42 billion yuan ($1.9 billion), an increase of 17.42 percent year-on-year.
These developments were revealed at a certification training course themed "three products and one geographical indication", which opened on Nov 11 in Haikou and was sponsored by the Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce.
"Three products and one standard" is a general term for pollution-free agricultural products, green food, organic agricultural products, and geographical indications of agricultural products. Nearly 50 leaders of agricultural enterprises that have their own brands from six cities and counties in the province participated in the training.
Since 2015, a total of 12 cities and counties in Hainan have come together to create a comprehensive demonstration county of national e-commerce in rural areas, which has promoted the development of e-commerce applications in the province by fostering market players, incubating e-commerce talents, and marketing agricultural products.
The Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce said that in the next step, the department will increase its investment in agricultural product standardization and branding, and cultivate marketable e-commerce brands. They will also encourage the live streaming of e-commerce to boost the sales of featured agricultural products and rural tourism products.
