Sanya has been boosting the China's Seed "Silicon Valley" construction in Nanfan, according to the National Nanfan Silicon Valley Construction Symposium held on Feb 12.

In Nanfan Silicon Valley, 242,600 mu (16,173 hectares) of high-standard farmland were constructed as the first phase of the only biological breeding area in China to be put into trial operation. 12 public and open scientific research platforms such as Yazhou Bay Seed Laboratory were laid out and began construction.

Sanya is building a national wild rice germplasm resource garden, planning to preserve 30,000 wild rice germplasm resources. It will also build a national animal and plant gene bank relying on the nearly 1 million crop breeding materials collected by Nanfan base every year.

Sanya Phoenix International Airport has been approved as a designated supervision site for imported plant seedlings. It helped local enterprises introduce 230 kilogram corn germplasm resources from Brazil aside from 40 kg of soybeans and 100 kg of corn germplasm resources of 50 different varieties from Germany.

Sanya vigorously promotes the gathering of seed resources accelerating the implementation of innovative seed enterprises. To date, 16 local institutions such as the Hainan Innovation Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences have settled down and 415 seed enterprises such as Longping Hi-Tech, China National Seed Group, and German KWS have been introduced. The National Modern Agricultural Industrial Park with an output value of 5.7 billion yuan ($896 million)  has become an important platform for driving breeding innovations and industrial development in Nanfan Silicon Valley.
