Updated: ehainan.gov.cn

According to the press conference held by Haikou Customs, the total import and export value of Hainan's trade in goods in 2021 was 147.68 billion yuan ($23.36 billion), an increase of 57.7 percent year-on-year.

The province's import and export growth rate of trade in goods last year was 36.3 percentage points higher than the national growth rate, ranking third in the country. Among them, the export value was 33.26 billion yuan, an increase of 20.1 percent, while the import value was 114.42 billion yuan, an increase of 73.6 percent.

Last year, Hainan's imports and exports to the other 14 Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) members reached 58.08 billion yuan, an increase of 46.7 percent. Its imports and exports to the 10 ASEAN countries were 24.92 billion yuan, an increase of 5 percent. Its trade with developed economies has increased, with its import and export growth with the EU and the United States being 39.4 percent and 47.7 percent respectively, while its imports and exports with countries and regions along the Belt and Road have increased by 40.3 percent.

Ju Chunmei, an official with Haikou Customs, said that Hainan's foreign trade has achieved a strong start for the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period. Thanks to the dividend release of the Hainan Free Trade Port policy, it is expected that the province's foreign trade value will continue to maintain rapid growth this year.
