A signing ceremony for key projects was held at Hainan Free Trade Port on October 13, 2020. US electric carmaker Tesla signed a contract to set up a new energy vehicle innovation center project in Hainan, and to distribute supercharging piles around the island.
A representative from the Hainan Provincial Deepening Reform Office said that the Hainan Tesla New Energy Vehicle Innovation Center project will focus on the technical research and development of electric vehicle batteries and energy storage equipment. Hainan is expected to become one of the most important sites in Tesla’s global new energy product research and development system.
Xu Yao, the sales manager of Tesla in Hainan, said that Tesla will construct its own charging network facilities in Hainan and improve the layout of supercharging piles on the east, middle and west lines of Hainan Island.
Tesla signed a contract with Haikou Fullsing Internet Industrial Park to build its first intelligent new energy vehicle display and experience center in Hainan, and to construct an online-offline business model and a user-centered intelligent after-sales service system. At present, Tesla Automobile Sales Service (Haikou) Co. Ltd. is registered in Haikou. On the basis of the completion of the Tesla charging network on the eastern line, Tesla will further expand the layout of supercharging stations on the middle and western lines.
