The Summer Davos Forum held in Dalian has always brought many surprises to its guests. Dalian’s vibrant and high-quality cultural and tourism industry ensures that visitors from all over the world have a delightful and comfortable stay. Through the Davos platform, the beauty of Dalian has gained international fame.

Dalian is dedicated to becoming a livable, business-friendly, and tourist-friendly international coastal tourism destination. The city is implementing innovative measures to promote the high-quality integration of culture, sports, and tourism. Efforts include shaping the development landscape, upgrading industrial projects, diversifying consumption options, enhancing the city’s charm, and optimizing the service system.

In 2023, Dalian saw a year-on-year increase of 87.84 percent in tourist arrivals, reaching 157.49 percent of its 2019 levels. Tourism revenue also grew by 183.13 percent year-on-year, achieving 185.58 percent of the 2019 levels. These growth rates set new historical records and continue to lead the province.

Dalian has been designated as the "East Asian Cultural Capital" for 2024, further expanding its urban influence. This accolade marks a new phase in cultural, sports, and tourism development aimed at creating new supplies, meeting fresh demands, and stimulating innovative consumption patterns.

In 2024, Dalian plans to land a number of significant cultural and tourism projects worth over 100 million yuan ($14 million), upgrade premier scenic spots to meet new demand, and showcase integrated cultural, sports, and tourism developments through high-quality projects.

The city has planned and reserved 355 cultural and tourism projects, with 90 projects already commenced or resumed in the first quarter, achieving an investment of 855 million yuan.

On the popular Gangdong Fifth Street, Dalian launched 16 initiatives within six days to encoourage citizens and tourists to deeply experience the unique romantic charm of the city.

These initiatives include free drinking water service stations, a tour guide and navigation signage system, the best photo spots, and a temporary tourism line for the Donggang sightseeing bus.

At this year's Summer Davos Forum, domestic and international guests can experience the fruitful development of Dalian's cultural and tourism industry through special tours and project inspections.

One highlight is a ride on the "Laohutan" - the first large-scale high-end sightseeing cruise ship in Northeast China, offering a unique view of Dalian from the sea. The "Laohutan" integrates business receptions, large banquet dining, and leisure sightseeing, embodying a new generation of maritime tourism with fashion, creativity, technology, and intelligence.
