Bosch, a Germany-headquartered global technology and service provider, inaugurated an emission-free fuel cell logistics project recently in Wuxi National Hi-tech District, Jiangsu province.

This marks Bosch's first effort to use hydrogen fuel cell commercial vehicles in its own logistics operations. Over the next five years, the project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 500 metric tons.

The project is also the first hydrogen-powered logistics demonstration project introduced by China Post Logistics (CNPL) in Jiangsu. The two Qingling trucks provided by CNPL are equipped with Bosch's fuel cell power modules and capable of increased range and quicker refueling.

Thomas Wenner, senior vice-president of Bosch Powertrain Systems Co Ltd, said the new project serves as a milestone in Bosch's endeavors to commercialize hydrogen power technology in China. Bosch aims to engage with various sectors in Wuxi to explore the application of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, he added.

In recent years, Wuxi National Hi-tech District has leveraged its robust manufacturing and automotive components industries to develop a range of high-quality hydrogen energy projects. These include the Bosch China Hydrogen Fuel Cell Center, Lead Intelligent Hydrogen Fuel Cell Manufacturing Equipment, and CR Gas Shuofang Hydrogen Refueling Station. An integrated hydrogen energy industrial chain covering production, refueling, fuel cells, and hydrogen-powered vehicles has been built in the district.
