The zone's total area has expanded from less than 10 square kilometers (4 sq miles) in 1992 to more than 420 sq km (162 sq miles) currently. Its overall operation revenue has also surged from less than 400 million yuan ($57 million) to over 360 billion yuan ($52 billion) in 30 years.

The zone is the 17th in the comprehensive rankings among the 157 national hi-tech zones. After decades of development, its Tangjiawan Main Park has been named a National Massive Entrepreneurship & Innovation Demonstration Base.

The number of hi-tech enterprises based in the zone went from 90 to over 1,100 in 30 years. These enterprises have reached numerous sci-tech achievements such as Zhuhai Orbita Aerospace Science & Technology's "Zhuhai-1" remote sensing micro and nano satellite constellation, and the Zhu Hai Yun vessel, China's first intelligent unmanned system mother ship by Yunzhou Technology.

The zone is also home to Southern Marine Science & Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Zhuhai) and Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Interdisciplinary Research & Application for Data Science of Beijing Normal University - Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC).

The zone has created a 15-minute convenient living circle and has built 10 new industrial communities in Tangjiawan, which include providing 6,000 places in public schools for students of residents working in the zone.

Priority has been given to the development of the manufacturing industry, and the construction of various 5.0 space projects has been progressing.

The abundant higher education resources and preferential talent policies in the zone has attracted talents to settle here. The zone has also been allocating an annual fund of 300 million yuan ($43 million) for talents and has arranged 20,000 apartments specifically for talents in the past three years.

Standing on the edge of a new era, the zone is expected to build the Zhuhai Future Technology City and become a strategic industrial highland on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary.
