As of the end of April this year, the Municipal Finance Bureau of Baotou had secured 1.71 billion yuan ($256.16 million) for building a pioneer city for carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, according to the Municipal Finance Bureau of Baotou.

In order to adopt measures to combat climate change and pollution, Baotou has been planning a budget with two fronts of measures. In urban areas, projects such as promoting green lifestyles and constructing garbage classification facilities, as well as health and fitness trails, are planned. In rural areas, in order to enlarge the size of carbon sinks, projects such as reforestation and high-standard farm land building are also underway.

At the same time, Baotou has applied for and landed national projects. For example, Baotou has been successfully nominated as a pilot city for the winter clean heating project in the northern region of the country, as well as a land greening pilot project. Apart from that, the central government has allocated 1.1 billion yuan in financial support to Baotou.
