German premium carmaker Audi made the global debut on Tuesday of a concept car which it said was developed for customers in China, its largest market.

"In order to meet the demands of our Chinese customers, Audi's design studios in Beijing and Ingolstadt worked together closely to jointly develop the Audi urbansphere concept car," said Markus Duesmann, chairman of the board management at Audi AG, who is also responsible for the Chinese market.

The carmaker added that the vehicle is suitable for metropolitan cities in other countries as well.

The 5.51-meter-long vehicle, with a wheelbase of 3.4 meters, has the largest interior space of any Audi to date.

Audi said the interior acts as a lounge and a mobile office. The vehicle will feature Level 4 autonomous driving technology, so there is no steering wheel or pedals.

Audi said it is currently working with CARIAD, Volkswagen Group's software business, to introduce the Level 4 technology within the second half of the decade.

The model uses 800-volt charging technology. It has a range of up to 750 kilometers on one charge.

The urbansphere is the latest concept that Audi has unveiled to show its vision of premium mobility in the era of electrification and autonomous driving.
