The Theme Forum of the Guangdong 21st Century Maritime Silk Road International Expo is scheduled to launch on Sept 24 along with the expo in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, according to a press conference held on Monday.

With the theme "New Stage, New Concept, and New Pattern", the forum aims to deepen cooperation among Guangdong province and the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions (SARs).

Parallel forums will discuss five topics, including "Opportunities and Challenges of Asia-Pacific Regional Cooperation" and "Global Value Chains Reconstruction and Belt and Road Opening-up and Cooperation".

One of the parallel forums will focus on the growth of Guangdong's overseas economic and trade cooperation zones, as well as explore the business environment in local cooperation zones and industrial parks.

Moreover, measures will be issued to support the economic zones' provision of financial services, which will help tenant enterprises overcome financing difficulties and facilitate the implementation of cooperation projects.

Nearly 800 attendees are expected this year, including former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, Malaysian Ambassador to China Raja Nushirwan Zainal Abidin, and Executive Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement Chamber of Commerce and Industry (APTA CCI) Wang Yanguo, who will deliver speeches online and offline.

Ambassadors from Uruguay, Georgia and other countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as Michael Levitt, the 2013 Chemistry Nobel Laureate, will also attend the forum.

The Guangdong 21st Century Maritime Silk Road International Expo will be held from Sept 24 to 26 at the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou.
