German auto parts maker to increase investment in SND

Knorr-Bremse, a German auto parts manufacturer, signed an agreement with Suzhou New District on July 27 to establish its China R&D center and a production base for commercial vehicle systems in the district.

According to the agreement, the production base will be established in Xushuguan Economic Development Zone, mainly focusing on researching, developing, and producing smart driving systems, steering systems, as well as automatic transmission control systems for commercial vehicles.

The production base is expected to achieve 2 billion yuan ($307.46 million) in annual sales in the next few years.

The China R&D Center is located in Taihu Cloud Park, Suzhou Science and Technology Town.

A team of 300 staff members will be engaged in the research and development of smart driving technology for commercial vehicles to improve road traffic safety and efficiency. The center will start operations at the end of July.

In addition, Knorr-Bremse and SND will also cooperate on public welfare programs, including promoting public welfare culture, as well as carrying out various public welfare assistance and voluntary service activities to support and boost development in education, culture, health, sports, and environmental protection.

Knorr-Bremse is a world leading manufacturer of brake systems in rail vehicles and commercial vehicles with 100 branches in 30 countries all over the world.

Founded in SND in 2005, Knorr-Bremse Systems for Rail Vehicles (Suzhou) Co is a wholly-owned subsidiary and a major manufacturing facility for brake systems catering to domestic markets. It is also Knorr-Bremse Group's largest manufacturer for its rail business in the world, according to Xu Baoping, chairman of the board of directors of Knorr-Bremse Asia Pacific.
