Jinggangshan Economic and Technological Development Zone was established in November 2001 and upgraded to a national economic and technological development zone in 2010.

In 2017, the zone achieved revenue of 95.9 billion yuan from its main business, an increase of 18.1 percent. The zone currently has two academician workstations, two postdoctoral research workstations and 30 provincial engineering and technology research centers. It has established 30 provincial engineering and technology research centers and 54 high-tech enterprises.

The total number of provincial technology centers in the zone accounts for 52 percent of those in the city, and the added value of high-tech industries reaches 45 percent. In 2017, there were 2,321 filed patent applications and there were 1,262 patents granted. The zone was also named a national intellectual property pilot demonstration zone.
