Set up in September 1992, Puyang Economic and Technological Development Zone was upgraded to a national one under the approval of the State Council in January 2013. Occupying a total area of 232 square kilometers, the zone governs 132 administrative villages with a population of 265,000.

Lying in the east of Puyang, Henan province, the zone has convenient transportation network with highways and railways passing through. Over 27 years of development, the zone has witnessed high-speed economic growth. Focusing on the construction of a national chemical new materials industrial base, it gives priority to developing its leading industries, namely electronic chemicals, new materials, advanced equipment manufacturing, and e-commerce.

In 2015, the GDP of the zone totaled 8.75 billion yuan ($1.3 billion), up 12.8 percent from the previous year, ranking second in Puyang. The added value of industries above a designated scale reached 3.74 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 17 percent.
