Shenyang High-tech Industrial Development Zone, formerly known as Hunnan New Area, was first established in May 1988 and was upgraded into a national high-tech industrial development zone in 1991.
The high-tech zone now has more than 6,500 registered enterprises, including more than 700 high-tech enterprises, more than 400 foreign-funded enterprises and 27 enterprises among the Fortune Global 500. Its five leading industries are electronic information, advanced manufacturing, new materials, biopharmaceuticals, and creative industries.
The development zone achieved a GDP of 47.1 billion yuan ($6.99 billion) in 2018, up 6 percent from the previous year. Among them, the output value of high-tech industries increased by more than 20 percent. Investment in fixed assets reached 23 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 20 percent.
