The Zhuhai-Macao Cross-Border Industrial Zone was founded in December 2003 and approved by the State Council in 2006 as the first of its kind in the country. It is positioned to enhance economic cooperation between Guangdong and Macao, while being a staunch force for Macao's long-term stability and prosperity.

The cross-border industrial zone covers 40 hectares (99 acres), of which about three-quarters or 29 hectares is in Zhuhai and 11 hectares is in Macao. It is part of the Zhuhai Free Trade Zone in Wanzai (across the Qianshan Watercourse).

It is 38 kilometers from Zhuhai Jinwan Airport, 10 km from Jiuzhou Port Container Terminal, and 53 km from Zhuhai Port. After the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Hong Kong is now 40 minutes away.

The zone enjoys close proximity to Zhuhai’s prime shopping locations, including Hengqin New Area, Shizimen Central Business District, and Gongbei's core business area, making it a portal for foreign products to enter the Chinese mainland.

The zone integrates high-end logistics and consumer goods trade, exhibitions, and bonded businesses. In the near future, it will become a characteristic logistics distribution center serving Macao. It will take advantage of FTZ policies, preferred taxation of export-import goods, and checkpoints with 24-hour customs clearance.
