Nanjing Export Processing Zone was set up in March 2003, approved by the State Council. In September of the same year, after being jointly checked and accepted by eight ministries and commissions under the State Council, it was allowed to be put into practice.

It has a planned area of 1.5 square kilometers, from Xianxin Road in the east to Xingzhi Road in the west, and from Hengguang Road in the north to Xixia Road in the south.

It is adjacent to Nanjing Xinshengwei Foreign Trade Harbor, the largest inner-river harbor in the country, and Nanjing No 2 Yangtze River Bridge. Due to its short distance from the downtown, only 10 kilometers, it has received direct support from Nanjing city in numerous fields such as industry, science and technology, information, financing, human resource and supporting services.

It is also home to customs office and a branch of Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau. The customs office provides 24-hour service for enterprises in the zone, and has simplified the procedure of declaration, examination and acceptance.

In addition, it has support services including banks, transportation and storage to assist companies to go through all the processes within the zone.

Residential facilities have been established outside the zone. The enterprises can enjoy the preferential policies in terms of tax, processing trade and management of foreign currency, and also those of the Nanjing Economic & Technological Development Zone, where the export processing zone is located.

The zone encourages the development of high-technology industries, such as electronic information, precision machinery and new materials. Up to now, six tenant enterprises have performed well including Korea Hanrim Postech (Nanjing) Co and Sinotrans Logistics.
