Located in Jianghai district, Jiangmen, Guangdong province, Jiangmen Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone was established in July 1992 and received approval from the State Council in November 2010 to upgrade to a national hi-tech zone. It has a planned area of 47.1 square kilometers, housing a hi-tech industrial park, a neighboring port industrial park, and a business service center.
The hi-tech zone plans to build three major parks, namely the green light source industry park, advanced manufacturing park, and science and technology innovation park. It focuses on the development of emerging industries based on green light sources, high value-added advanced manufacturing industries based on auto parts and high-end electronic information, and modern service industries based on port logistics, commercial and residential facilities, technology services, and finance. At present, there are more than 500 enterprises investing in the hi-tech zone, of which 15 have invested over 100 million yuan ($15 million).
In 2017, Jiangmen Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone ranked 64th among national hi-tech zones in China. The regional GDP increased by 8.2 percent, the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 10.5 percent, and the budget revenue of local public finance increased by 20.4 percent.
The high-tech zone has introduced a number of industrial projects with investment exceeding 100 million yuan, with a total planned investment of over 10 billion yuan. The hi-tech zone has introduced 84 new hi-tech enterprises, three new provincial and municipal R&D institutions, one national-level maker space and 106 provincial and municipal innovation platforms.
