Zhangzhou China Merchants Economic and Technological Development Zone is located in southern Xiamen Bay in China’s southeast coast in Fujian province.

With a planned area of 56 square kilometers, the zone has four functional areas, including a port business area, a high-tech industrial park and residential area. 

Boasting a coastline of 28 kilometers, the zone has great advantages in port business and is capable of handling more than 40 million tons of goods annually. With the gradual formation of three major logistics centers for woods, grains and steel, the zone handled 28.4 million tons of cargo throughput in 2016.

In addition, China’s first ecological manmade island project was launched in the zone. Approved by the State council, construction on Shuangyu Island, which covers 2.2 square kilometers, started in February 2010 with total investment of 3.5 billion yuan ($508 million). In 2016, the island received 120,000 tourists.

At present, Zhangzhou China Merchants Economic and Technological Development Zone is actively cultivating five industrial clusters worth 10 billion yuan respectively in pan-information technology, smart car, healthcare, cultural tourism and advanced manufacturing upgraded from port businesses.
