Changxing Island National Economic and Technological Development Zone

Located in Dalian, Liaoning province, Changxing Island National Economic and Technological Development Zone, comprising of five islands, covers a total area of 502 square kilometers in the west of Liaodong Peninsula and the east coast of Bohai Sea. 

A harbor industrial park was established in Changxing Island, the main island, on November 2005, with a population of 57,000, and was later upgraded to a national economic and technological development zone, approved by the State Council on April 2010. 

In the same year on June, it was also launched as a comprehensive pilot reform zone by the provincial government.  Since then, the economy and social undertakings have experienced rapid growth. 

The zone focuses on shipbuilding, petrochemical, equipment manufacturing, high and new technology, modern services and port logistics. It is estimated that by 2020, the GDP will reach 130 billion yuan ($18.71 billion), the general budget revenue of local government, 12 billion yuan, and the port capacity, 100 million tons.

The region is expected to utilize a total of $30 billion foreign investment and domestic investment of 300 billion yuan, making it a pilot zone for innovation, reform and opening-up. The number of permanent residents will increase to 1 million.
