Jinzhou Coastal New Area, with a total area of 419 square kilometers at the southernmost end of Jinzhou, is crucial for Liaoning's coastal economy. An integration of an old development zone established in 1992, a new district and an economic zone, it was upgraded to national level in April 2010.
Currently, there are 45 large-scale industrial enterprises and 14 high-tech enterprises in the zone. It is home to five leading harbor industries, which are fine chemicals, auto parts, photovoltaic electronics, machinery manufacturing and chemical fiber textile.
In 2015, the region's GDP totaled 9.48 billion yuan ($136.51 million), up 8.2 percent year-on-year. Industrial added value above the designated scale reached 4.6 billion yuan, up 7.3 percent. Retail sales of consumer goods achieved 960 million yuan, up 8 percent. Fixed asset investment came up to 5.01 billion yuan, up 6 percent. Regional tax revenue was 1.06 billion yuan, up 7.1 percent. Actual utilization of foreign capital amounted to $60 million, an increase of 10 percent, with exports of $510 million.
