Set up in January 2013 on the approval of the State Council, Nantong Free Trade Zone covers an area of 5.29 square kilometers. The zone, which is located in East China's Jiangsu province, is divided into two parks: Park A and Park B.

Park A covers an area of 1.5 sq km in the former Nantong Export Processing Zone located in the center of Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area (NETDA).

Park B, only 2 km from Sutong Bridge, takes up an area of 3.8 sq km adjacent to the planned container dock with an annual handling capacity of 2 million twenty-foot container equivalent units (TEU).

The zone features nine functions: bonded processing, port operation, bonded warehousing, international procurement and distribution, entrepot trade, research and development, inspection and maintenance, exhibition, and foreign trade.

In spring 2018, a total of 34 major projects started construction at Nantong Export Processing Zone with their overall investment reaching 20.74 billion yuan ($3.02 billion).

In the first half of 2018, the newly registered foreign investment of the area totaled $870 million, up 102 percent year-on-year, with actual utilization of foreign capital reaching $420 million, up 47 percent year-on-year.
