In September 2010, Zhaoqing Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone in Zhaoqing city, Guangdong province, successfully upgraded to a national high-tech park. To date, it has introduced more than 280 enterprises covering new energy vehicles, advanced equipment manufacturing, biomedical food and more.

The hi-tech zone is dominated by the new metal material industry, advanced equipment manufacturing industry, electric information industry and biological elements industry. It also has a central service area, a logistics and comprehensive bonded area, and a production and research area.

In 2017, the hi-tech zone’s GDP reached 20.27 billion yuan ($2.92 billion), a year-on-year increase of 7.9 percent; the above-scale industrial value was 70.84 billion yuan, an increase of 7 percent; the above-scale industrial added value, 17.27 billion yuan, 8.5 percent; and the fixed investment, 17.02 billion yuan, 9.1 percent.

In the same period, the total retail sales of consumer goods reached 12.04 billion yuan, an increase of 17.2 percent, and the public budget revenue was 1.15 billion yuan, an increase of 21.7 percent. The actual use of foreign investment was $37 million while the total foreign trade value was 5.81 billion yuan.
