Heyuan National High-tech Zone, located in the south of Heyuan city, Guangdong province, was officially founded in June 2003. It was named a national high-tech zone by the State Council in early 2015.

Covering an area of 50 square kilometers, the hi-tech zone has set up more than 200 industrial projects and formed two leading industries: electronic information and precision machinery manufacturing. New energy, food and beverage, clothing and luggage, metal plastics and sports articles have also been developed as five characteristic industries. 

Heyuan National High-tech Zone has gradually established a mobile ecosystem integrating research and development, assembly, testing, logistics and sales, attracting more than 70 cell phone-related companies with 41.6 billion yuan ($5.98 billion) of gross industrial output in 2017, including the China-based Zhongxing Telecommunications Equipment (ZTE) Corporation, CK Telecom and Maxon Electronics.

The National Mobile Communication Products Testing Center entered the zone in 2007. Heyuan National High-tech Zone has been awarded the title of Guangdong Mobile Phone Production Base by the Guangdong Provincial Government, and the zone is also the only Mobile Phone Industry Cluster Upgrading Demonstration Area in Guangdong.

In the first six months of 2018, it achieved a total output value of 22.04 billion yuan, among which the output value of industries above a designated scale reached 19.8 billion yuan. Tax revenues hit 760 million yuan, the total value of foreign trade was 4.01 billion yuan, fixed-asset investment was 2.95 billion yuan, and actual utilization of foreign capital was $4.78 million.
