Longyan Economic & Technological Development Zone in the west of Fujian province was launched in July 1998 and approved as a national-level economic and technological development zone by the State Council in March 2012.
In July 2012, the Fujian government approved the zone as a provincial high-tech industrial development zone, which was further upgraded to national-level by the State Council in February 2015.
With the two titles of "national economic and technological development zone" and "national hi-tech industrial development zone", the zone is managed under a unified system by a group of officials.
It is composed of three areas – Dongxiao, Gaopo and Hongfang, which cover 25.4 square kilometers. The zone focuses on developing into a new center in Longyan city, a high-end industrial park and a hub for modern logistics.
In the first half of 2017, the zone’s industrial output value for enterprises above designated size was 3.3 billion yuan ($469 million), an increase of 8.9 percent year-on-year.
