Approved by the Zhejiang government, Huzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone (HETDZ) was established in Huzhou, Zhejiang province, as one of the first batch of the province’s economic development zones in 1992. In 2010, the State Council upgraded it to a national high-tech zone.

With a resident population of some 125,000 and an administrative jurisdiction area of 136 square kilometers, Huzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone is situated northwest of Huzhou city, adjacent to the city downtown area.

Located at the center of the Yangtze River Delta zone, the most prosperous development zone in China, Huzhou is within 220 km of Shanghai, Hangzhou and Nanjing by road, and accessible to 21 other cities in the delta in two hours’ drive.

In 2016, the total fiscal revenue in HETDZ reached 2.87 billion yuan ($413 million), a year-on-year increase of 14.8 percent. It is now focusing on  research and development in various emerging industries, including  biomedicine, next-generation electronic information, new energy automobile industry and internet plus financial services.
