Datong Economical and Technological Development Zone, established in 1992, became a characteristic pharmaceutical industrial base, which was also included in the Torch program – a plan to develop hi-tech industries in China, by the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2012.

Covering a total area of 239.4 square kilometers, the zone is composed of seven industrial parks of modern services, pharmaceutical, equipment manufacturing, high and new technology, new energy, aviation, and textile.

It has initially formed an industrial layout of industries of pharmaceutical, equipment manufacturing, new energy, new material, electronic information, aviation, energy conservation and environment, logistics, and food processing. 

There is also a comprehensive land port integrating the bonded, warehousing, processing and logistic functions, 20,000-square-meter science and technology incubators, and a 20,000-sq-m e-commerce industrial park in the zone, providing a favorable development platform for the enterprises in the zone.
