Haimen Economic and Technological Development Zone (HEDZ), founded in 1992, was one of the first batch of Jiangsu's provincial-level development zones and was upgraded to a national-level one under the approval of the State Council in January 2013.

With a total planning area of nearly 120 square kilometers, HEDZ has four characteristic functional areas, including the central business city, the Jiangong Lake Science and Education City, the Binjiang Industrial City, and the bonded logistics park.

HEDZ has entered a new development phase along with the implementation of several national strategies, such as plans and programs to boost the integrative development of the Yangtze River Delta and the coastal area's development in Jiangsu province.

It ranked on top among all the development zones in the province, and was referred to as the "Best Development Zone to Invest in Jiangsu". There have been more than 1,400 enterprises that have set up in the zone, including over 20 ones invested by Fortune Global 500 companies and State-owned enterprises.
