One of the three major summits in the international exhibitions industry – the Global Exhibition CEO Shanghai Summit 2023 – opened in the eponymous city in East China on June 20.

During the two-day event, more than 250 senior executives from China and abroad got into exploring such topics as the recovery in nation's exhibitions industry, digital empowerment, their own personal experiences and the sector's overall outlook.

At the opening ceremony, Shanghai Vice-Major Hua Yuan said his city valued the development of the exhibitions industry, which had achieved remarkable results. He said Shanghai would work hard to become an international exhibitions capital by expanding its openness, enhancing its capabilities and integrating its innovation.

Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce Director Zhu Min appointed 17 leading figures in international exhibitions as international consultants for the sector's development in the city – including Kai Hattendorf, managing director of UFI, or the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry.

The Shanghai Convention and Exhibition Industries Association also signed cooperation agreements with international exhibitions organizations and exhibition institutions at the opening ceremony.
