The Jinan High-Tech Industrial Development Zone (Jinan Innovation Zone), one of the first national level high-tech zones in China, was established in 1991. It is located in Jinan, East China's Shandong province.
As the capital city of Shandong province, Jinan, called “the City of Springs”, is also a nationally famous historical and cultural city. At present, the Jinan Innovation Zone consists of five areas: the Central Area, High-tech East Area, High-tech North Area, Zhangjin Area, and Innovation Valley Area, cove, and covers a total of 318 square kilometers. It has a permanent population of over 400 thousand people.
The scientific and technological innovation strength of the zone is strong. A number of scientific research institutes such as Jinan Science and Technology Innovation City of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Shandong Institute of Industry and Research have settled in the zone. Several technical support platforms have been successively built there, including the National Supercomputing Jinan Center and the Inspur High Performance Computing Center.
By the end of 2021, the high-tech zone had attracted more than 270 R&D institutions at or above the provincial level. The number of high-tech enterprises now exceeds 1600 and the total number of listed enterprises in the region has reached 120, of which 98 have been listed on the New OTC Market.
The high-tech zone achieved a GDP of 151.03 billion yuan ($21.19 billion) in 2021, an increase of 9.3 percent year-on-year. The growth rate of total and constant prices ranked second in the city, and the average growth rate in two years ranked first.
