The Tianfu New Area is the 11th state-level new area and was approved by the State Council on October 2, 2014.
Following Beijing and Shanghai, Chengdu is the third city to have two international airports nationwide, at which 328 airlines operate, including 109 international ones. The Chengdu-Europe Express, which opened in 2013, is the most competitive direct China-Europe Express Railway, with the highest efficiency and most stable operation frequency. It takes just ten days to travel from Chengdu to Lodz, Poland.
Chengdu is an important base for talents and technology in western China. It is home to a total of 4.43 million talents of various types, including 1.35 million regional professional and technical talents and 36 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. There are 56 colleges and universities, such as Sichuan University and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, and 125 secondary vocational colleges, which can provide around 200,000 graduates annually.
The Tianfu New Area has a good industrial foundation. It is home to the national Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone, the Chengdu Economic and Technological Development Zone, and the comprehensive bonded zone, and has attracted a large number of Fortune Global 500 companies, including Volkswagen, Geely, Toyota and Intel.
The output value of the electronic information and automobile industries in the area have surpassed 100 billion yuan ($14.05 billion). It has formed a complete industrial chain covering new the generation of information technology, new energy, new materials, the headquarters economy, finance, and e-commerce.
