An activity aimed at sharing the opportunities springing from the China International Import Expo or the CIIE – and promoting the high-quality development of the export-oriented economy of the Putuo district in Shanghai – was held in the city in East China on Oct 25.

The activity focused on introducing Putuo to Japanese enterprises in Shanghai and Japanese investment promotion agencies. More than 40 guests from 20 Japanese enterprises in Shanghai attended.

Zhu Yi, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, pointed out that Japan had always been an important economic and trade partner of Shanghai and had the largest cumulative amount of investment in the city.

She looked forward to taking the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan and the 5th CIIE as an opportunity to promote more Japanese enterprises entering Shanghai and the Putuo district.

Xiao Li, deputy head of Putuo district government, said that the district was striving to further attract the headquarters of multinationals to settle there and to gather high-capacity projects in line with the district's key life and health industries.

Participants also discussed the spillover effect of the CIIE and the new opportunities for foreign investors in Shanghai.

The event was held on the occasion of the 10-day countdown to the 5th CIIE and participants said they were looking forwards to the development and investment opportunities to be brought by the upcoming expo.
