Suzhou New District (SND) in East China's Jiangsu province has been taking steps to attract more high-profile talents to accelerate scientific and technological innovation in the Circum-Taihu Lake area.

At a conference held on May 29, the district released a three-year action plan focused on recruiting and cultivating personnel for the digital economy.

According to the plan, the local government will implement a series of measures, including providing at least 50 million yuan ($7.49 million) in grants for top talents or teams and offering free office spaces. It will also leverage Nanjing University's production-research platform to build a 190,000-square-meter international innovation community.

In addition, the district plans to build 20,000 flats within three years and accelerate the upgrading of existing blocks.

SND will focus mass resources on medical devices, integrated circuit, information technology and green and low-carbon industry.

To date, 100 research institutes, including the Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, have been established in the district. These institutes hire 46,000 talents.
