Jiaozuo National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone was established in1999 by the Henan provincial government and elevated to the national level by the State Council in 2006. It is only a 30 minutes drive away from the provincial capital, Zhengzhou.

The development zone currently administrates three counties, 104 villages, and four communities. Covering an area of 210 square kilometers, it is home to a population of 250,000.

To date, the zone has forged three industrial clusters around equipment manufacturing, food processing, and new materials. With an eye to the future, the administrative committee is focusing further on emerging sectors, including e-commerce, cloud computing and storage, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

In terms of technological innovation, the zone is home to three national key research laboratories, seven academician workstations, and 13 certified hi-tech enterprises.

In the first half of 2018, its regional GDP maintained its momentum and saw a year-on-year increase of 9.7 percent. The industrial output of enterprises above designated scale, those with annual sales of more than 5 million yuan ($744,371), increased by 10.9 percent compared with the same period in the previous year. In addition, its tertiary industry surged by 12.8 percent.
