Luzhou Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone was founded in September 2013 and upgraded to a national-level high-tech industrial development zone by the State Council in February 2015, becoming one of the three high-tech zones along the upstream of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

Located at the southeast of the Sichuan province, the 202-square-kilometer zone serves as the key area for the city's industrial development and enjoys good geographic advantages as it neighbors such cities as Chongqing, Chengdu and Guiyang.

The zone has forged industrial clusters of intelligent grids, big data, high-end equipment, modern medicine, new energy, new materials and auto parts.

The zone has formed a spatial framework of "one core, two districts and multiple parks" as it emerges as a modern scientific industrial zone covering research and development, industrial development and a good living environment. "One core" refers to the 4.62-square-kilometer key area in Longmatan district. "Two districts" are the Jiangyang and Luxian county region. "Multiple parks" include the modern pharmaceutical industrial park, machinery and equipment industrial park, new energy and new materials industrial park, intelligent manufacturing industrial park and big data industrial park.

The zone has become a high-tech base for the nation's high-performance hydraulic parts industry, one of the country's nine big production bases for engineering machinery, a manufacturing center for large and medium hydraulic truck cranes and excavators and a municipal modern pharmaceutical base with the highest level of agglomeration in Sichuan.

By the end of 2018, a total of 28 intelligent terminal enterprises had started production in the zone, offering more than 4,000 jobs, with its overall capacity surpassing 50 billion yuan ($7.43 billion) and total sales revenue exceeding 10 billion yuan.
