Yantai Export Processing Zone in East China's Shandong province was one of the first 15 export processing zones founded in April 2000 under the approval of the State Council and started operations in January 2001. It covers 3 square kilometers.

In September 2009, on the basis of the export processing zone, Yantai Free Trade Port Zone was established, becoming the first free trade port zone in China built by integrating an export processing zone and nearby ports.

The zone is located in the northern part of Yantai's downtown area, facing Japan and South Korea across the sea. It enjoys convenient transport, with Yantai Railway Station 1 km to its south, Yantai Port to the east and Yantai Penglai International Airport 17 km away.

The zone mainly covers businesses in warehousing, logistics, foreign trade, international purchases, sales and distribution, testing and after-sales service, and product exhibitions. It has cultivated three industrial clusters in electronic engineering, auto parts processing, and bonded logistics.

By February 2010, the zone had attracted investment from more than 100 enterprises from over 10 foreign countries and regions. A total of 83 companies had been registered here, with the investment amounting to $210 million.
