Zouping National Economic and Technological Development Zone, founded in August 2001, was upgraded to a provincial-level development zone by the Shandong provincial government in June 2003 and to a national-level one by the State Council in November 2010. Located in the county-level city Zouping in Binzhou, the zone was the first national-level development zone to be settled in a county-level city in the province.

The Luzhong Yunda Bonded Logistics Center in the zone started its operations in November 2014, becoming the first bonded logistics center based in a county-level city nationwide.

The zone, situated in the core areas of the Yellow River Delta and the Bohai Economic Rim, enjoys convenient transport. It is 45 kilometers from Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport, 130 km from Binzhou Port, and 240 km from Qingdao Port. The Jinan-Qingdao Expressway and the provincial highways S246 and S321 pass through the zone.

After years of development, the zone has developed three industrial clusters of textiles and garments, new materials, and food and medicine. It houses the world's largest cotton textile production base, Asia's largest glucose production base, and an aluminium product intensive processing manufacturing base of national importance.

Up to now, the zone has attracted 357 projects with total investment of 101.2 billion yuan ($14.67 billion), including some funded by Global 500 companies – the Japanese trading house Itochu Corp and leading US energy company Constellation Energy Group. It has nine listed enterprises, with total financing of 23.2 billion yuan.
