Tai'an Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone (or Tai'an Hi-tech Zone), located at the foot of Mount Tai in Tai'an, Shandong province, was founded in 1994 and upgraded to a national-level hi-tech zone in 2012 with the approval of the State Council. It covers 748 square kilometers with a permanent resident population of 482,000.

Adjacent to the Beijing-Shanghai and Beijing-Fuzhou high-speed railways and the Beijing-Shanghai Expressway, and with the National Highway G104 passing through, the zone has convenient transport.

After years of development, the zone has established leading industries in electric transmission and transformation equipment, high-end equipment manufacturing, automobiles and parts, and modern logistics. It is also striving to promote the development of some emerging industries, such as the new generation of information technology, e-commerce, biological medicine, new energy, energy conservation and environment protection, and tourism.

In 2017, its regional GDP reached 20.14 billion yuan ($2.92 billion), a year-on-year increase of 8.2 percent, ranking first among the city. The output value of industrial enterprises above designated size totaled 38.24 billion yuan, increasing by 18.1 percent over 2016.

The total export-import volume in 2017 was 1.3 billion yuan, with a yearly growth rate of 37.83 percent, which was 23.29 percentage points higher than the city's average. The actual use of foreign capital amounted to 576 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 54.35 percent, which was 38.71 percentage points higher than the city's average. There were 51 national-level high-tech enterprises in the zone by the end of 2017.
