With a planned area of 1.8 square kilometers, Fuzhou Taiwan Business Investment Zone was established in Mawei district, Fuzhou, Fujian province in May 1989 after the approval of the State Council. It is located in the Fuzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone and enjoys equal preferential policies of the development zone.

Fuzhou Taiwan Business Investment Zone is among the first batch of two zones of its kind in the Chinese mainland with a focus on attracting Taiwan's industries of electronic information, optoelectronics, and modern equipment manufacturing. On Jan 21, 2012, the State Council approved its expansion to 13.26 sq km with the major part of Songshan area.

The Songshan area covers 6 sq km and is located in the north of Luoyuan Bay. With several more than 10,000-ton-level berths, the bay has an annual throughput capacity of more than 8 million tons. In addition, National Highway 104, Shenyang-Haikou High-speed Expressway and Wenzhou-Fuzhou Railway also run through the area.

Keeping a close cooperation with Taiwan scientific and technological parks, Songshan area focuses on the development of precision machinery, high-end equipment, and mold manufacturing, as well as electronic information and cultural and creative industries.

By August 2018, there were 34 firms based in the zone, including Chuanglong Technology, Fujian Liansu Material Technology Co and Fujian Chenda Electromechanical Co, with a total investment of 9.9 billion yuan ($14.7 billion), of which $270 million was foreign investment.
