Established in March 2003 under the approval of the State Council, Shanghai Qingpu Export and Processing Zone is a special zone supervised by Shanghai Customs. It covers a planned area of three square kilometers in Qingpu Industrial Park, on the fertile lands of the Yangtze River Delta Region.

Qingpu Export and Processing Zone offers a full array of services, including export-oriented processing, bonded logistics, warehousing, maintenance, distribution, allocation and business investment.

To date, the zone has formed four predominant industries covering clean energy, advanced equipment, electronic information and new material.

With more than 60 higher-leaning institutions surrounding it, Qingpu Export Processing Zone has become a center of talent, enjoying human resources from more than 60,000 students. There are 5000 new graduates every year.

In 2017, Qingpu Export and Processing Zone saw an import-export volume of $50 billion, an industrial output of 6.53 billion yuan ($947 million) and a tax revenue of 854 million yuan, 707 million of which came from customs. According to the State Council in September 2018, the export processing zone will soon be integrated into a bonded free trade zone.
