Tonghua Pharmaceutical Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone

Located in Tonghua city, Jilin province, Tonghua Pharmaceutical Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone was formerly known as Jilin Tonghua Economic and Technological Development Zone in which was established in July 2005. With the approval of Jilin provincial government, the economic and technological development zone was integrated with Tonghua Pharmaceutical Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone into one as Tonghua Pharmaceutical Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone in August 2011.

It was upgraded into a national pharmaceutical high-tech zone approved by the State Council in December 2013. The zone has a planned area of 12.71 square kilometers and currently has an administrative area of 57.3 sq km.

It follows the industrial orientation of "one main body with two wings". With traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as its main industry, the zone aims to promote the modernization of TCM under the support of some superior academician workstations. "Two wings" refer to its high-tech sector and high-end services. The zone will rely on its bio-pharmaceuticals to promote the introduction and industrialization of high-tech achievements. It also plans to establish high-end service trading platforms based on its health service industry.

Up to now, the development zone has attracted nine high-tech enterprises, with the annual industrial output value exceeding 60 billion yuan ($8.88 billion). In 2015, the annual GDP reached 24.1 billion yuan, up 18 percent from the previous year. The industrial added value hit 23 billion yuan, up 18.2 percent from a year earlier. The investment in fixed assets was 4.5 billion yuan, up 12.9 percent year-on-year.
