Maoming Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone [Photo/ mmht.gov.cn]
Located in Maoming, Guangdong province, Maoming Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone was first established in 2003 with the former name Maoming Petrochemical Industrial Zone. It was recognized as a provincial level high-tech zone by Guangdong Provincial Government in 2011 and was approved by the State Council on Mar 7, 2018 as a national high-tech industrial development zone.
The hi-tech zone covers an area of 102 square kilometers with a built area of 13.31 square kilometers and a population of about 120,000. It focuses on creating six major sections: a fine chemical industry zone, a logistics and trade distribution center, a science, education, culture and health development zone, a medicine experimental zone, an ecological agriculture zone, and a supporting area.
The hi-tech zone is based on the petrochemical and fine chemical industry, supported by the three new strategic emerging industries of new materials, high-end equipment manufacturing and bio-health, and supplemented by modern service industry.
In 2016, the high-tech zone completed a total gross domestic product of 37.37 billion yuan ($5.85 billion). The added value of industries above designated size was 11.4 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 14.15 percent. The fixed-asset investment was 5.54 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 23.81 percent and the total tax revenue was 2.85 billion yuan, up 64.82 percent year-on-year.
